Yea it’s pretty bad ngl but the winds ain’t as strong so that’s a good thing
Yeah, thats honestly the only reason why the Hollywood Hills fire is more under control RN, if the winds were raging in that area we could have had the hollywood bowl, walk of fame, dolby theatre, and TONS of residential areas right there up in flames. theres more residential areas over there than palisades.
Also, I'm not sure if this could still apply to anyone on ktt, but if you could, spread the word with this link care.211cs.org/public-survey/86c5adf88e2a29c103df24ba5f48cd3f6cf9a9171207a15954dbb8b9649429f0
AirBNB partnered up with LA211 to provide folks in the affected areas 1 Week free stay in a airbnb.

The problem is its so f***ing dry Its like 6% humidity everywhere, s*** can catch on fire quick. We havent had rain in months

This is why Trump wants to take possession of Canada and Greenland. Trump is not the climate change denier he presents himself to be.
He knows that as the US' southern climates get more arid, Canada's climate will get more temperate and the arctic melting means easier access to its hidden ressources. Not to even mention the access to fresh water.

Santa Ana winds are set to cause critical fire conditions over the next three days across parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, as the region continues to battle historic and deadly blazes.
The wind-fed wildfires have killed at least 24 people and swept through 40,000 acres in the Greater Los Angeles area, destroying entire communities and more than 12,300 structures.
The largest blaze, the Palisades Fire, has burned over 23,000 acres and was only 14% contained as it threatened Brentwood, Encino and Westwood.
Evacuation orders are in effect for 92,000 L.A. residents, and 89,000 are in evacuation warning zones, which means they may need to leave at a moment’s notice.
just wanted to make a thread and not derail @survival_horror s but ill add his go fund me to the OP when he drops

thank you so much dude this is actually really touching
The problem is its so f***ing dry Its like 6% humidity everywhere, s*** can catch on fire quick. We havent had rain in months
it’s the dryness and the lack of infrastructure. they were tapping hydrants in the palisades and no water was coming out
the problem is they new about this for decades and did nothing. then karen bass cut 23 million from lafd
My heart goes out to CA. This is so f***ed. I could not imagine not having a home to come back to after evacuating
Also side note I understand there are underlying politics to be discussed which correlate to pre and reactive-ness of the situation, but everything being leveraged as a political opportunity disgusts me

this has been tough to deal with for me as well. i make less than 50k a year and people are calling me rich for living in the palisades. it’s kind of insane

People def been showing their ass all for some weird gotcha
slight good news
The Sunset Fire that broke out in Runyon Canyon last night is now 100% contained, according to the LAFD, and evacuation orders for that area have been lifted.
The Sunswept Fire in Studio City has also been successfully knocked down and the Woodley Fire was contained on Wednesday.
Airdrops will continue today and hundreds of firefighters continue to tackle the blazes across the city.
A smoke advisory is in effect and the L.A. County Department of Public Health urges locals to be mindful of smoke, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure and limit physical exertion.

the Eaton fire is currently spreading towards Mt. Wilson observatory
sorry if i get any of the location info/ names wrong i live in GA and just going off news sites
Flames from the massive Eaton Fire are approaching the summit of California’s Mount Wilson. The mountaintop is home to communication towers and an historic observatory.
The observatory said on Facebook that flames were approaching. "There are firefighters on the grounds but the power is out at the Observatory so communication is limited. We are monitoring the situation and will update here as we can," it said.
The observatory holds a special place in the history of astronomy. It was there that Edwin Hubble showed in 1925 that the Milky Way is one of many galaxies. Four years later, Hubble was at Mount Wilson when he confirmed that the universe is still expandin

How do fires like this start? Someone being negligent about not putting out something? Or it being so dry out there a fire just starts

Both + high winds

Wake up call for all socal californians fr. Most people across the whole country want to see us die
How do fires like this start? Someone being negligent about not putting out something? Or it being so dry out there a fire just starts
Both.
THe humidity was 5% (absolutely f***ing dry).
Most of socal hasnt had rain in months. And those small pockets of rain were very minimal. If we do a full-year comparison back from todays date, we havent had s***.
The "Santa Ana winds" are "normal" because they always come out this time of year in the fall, but they are NEVER 90-100 MPH...
One wonders if that is a nasty side effect of climate change, or the combination of the winter storm that hit the other side of the US colliding with the santa ana winds.
Basically a lightning strike can cause a wildfire anywhere here rn. A lighter thrown in a brush area, Embers from a existing fire, even from a fireplace. A firework, etc.
With the wind being that strong, embers from far away can travel a long distance into a vulnerable area. That also makes it problematic in putting the fire out because they have to now time the water drop so that it actually connects.
In Hollywood Hills case, the winds died down heavily when the fire occured, and thats probably a leading reason why that one wasnt as bad
