Yes and no to answer your question. The meta weapons are unfortunately the vanguard weapons (so if you want that upper hand than yes you have to use them) but Cold War and modern warfare weapons are still good too.

There is a way to deal/counter campers on such places, like killstreaks, but there will always be camping in CoD

I feel like camping is the least of the games problems tho, and the game rewards you if you play actively, especially on Rebirth, where you get UAVs if you keep your kills going, etc.

Activision actively ruining the meta, hackers, awful main mode map, all bigger issues RN tbh

Warzone 2 will hopefully give us the much needed reset, if you're looking for modern weapons and map, give that a try when it comes out, it will be solely modern weaponry

None of CW SMGs really are competitive with vanguard guns, you'll get destroyed by almost all of them
