call out my name might be the weeknd’s most devastating song and honestly, his greatest. i’ve been following him since house of balloons, and this one feels like a spiritual successor to the raw emotion in trilogy—but even more exposed. like his heart isn’t just broken, it’s gushing blood.

the first half is pure vulnerability. he’s simping, but not in a weak way. it’s tired, heavy, like someone who gave everything and knows it wasn’t enough. lines like “why can’t you wait ‘til i fall out of love?” aren’t just sad, they’re surrender. he’s not asking her to love him, just to let him bleed out quietly.

    then it flips:

“guess i was just another pit stop / ’til you made up your mind / you just wasted my time.”

like getting stabbed in the chest. the tone changes instantly. no more softness, no more hope. just cold realization. it reframes everything before it. he wasn’t the one—just a placeholder.

he’s never needed interviews or statements. the songs say more than words ever could about selena.

there’s definitely trilogy energy in call out my name, but the difference is in the clarity. those early tracks felt like being in love with chaos—drunk, high, spiraling through toxic love with no real grip on reality. it was beautiful, but blurry.

call out my name isn’t blurry. it’s sober. fully aware of how much it actually hurt. there’s no haze to hide behind, no numbness. it’s direct, sharp like getting hit in the heart with the truth you didn’t want to hear.

not mad at this, I was talking about this the other day

I showed a relative of mine his new stuff and then reminded them of this song in particular. and we both said how it’s one of the best songs if not one of the best joints last decade

One of his best, for sure. The whole EP was a great prelude to After Hours

  • This isn't Prisoner

  • Definitely up there. Agree with the things said in OP although I feel stronger emotions from ''Privilege'' which for me is the best song on the EP

I’m ngl i don’t ever feel like revisiting MDM, most def my least played Weeknd project. It’s good but it just doesn’t feel like a satisfying listen to me for some reason

Idk why it gets such unanimous praise and some of the same people don’t see the greatness of DAWN or Kiss Land
