I feel like people are so quick to call something they don’t get or reasonate with pretentious
OP mad that someone called Love (2015) pretentious
is that the Gaspar Noe p***o
Eh I mean if you peep a film's implicit meaning early on, but it continues to bash you over the head with its point(s) throughout as if the audience is too slow to understand it then I think saying it is pretentious is a fair critique.
its usually the fanbase of movies that create the pretentious aura itself more so than the movie in most cases

that's more like pandering than pretentiousness imo
though it's an overused/misused criticism, there are a few films that are definitely pretentious. best example is I'm Thinking of Ending Things, where the audience has to recognize Wordsworth poems, Ralph Albert Blakelock paintings, and Pauline Kael/John Cassavetes essays to really understand the film
Like say for example someone like Ridley Scott. Love his movies and he is up there as one of the best directors of the last 50 or so years. However in the last 10 or so years especially, he have become quite pretentious, and I believe that kinda pretentiousness has been bleeding into his films. I'd say it definitely started around 2012 with Prometheus onward.
I think that The Last Duel is a prime example of pretentious, especially with how Scott was acting and talking down superhero movies when it flopped. Even though in this instance I don't think superhero movies were necessarily responsible for the movie flopping.

Oh that's definitely some pretentious/headass s*** for sure
