Probably because of lack of time. They wanted to give one candidate more time to campaign. As soon as possible. Like they had already had a first presidential debate between Trump and Biden.
They might have made the wrong call but I can see why they didnt also.
They f***ed themselves by thinking Biden wasnt past it earlier. After the debate, they had no choice though as Biden was gonna lose if they continued with him. And Kamala was VP. They tried to save time by switching to her.
