    Sir Real

How would a tax on unrealized gains even work? Would they get refunds if the value of the asset goes down again? Sounds like a logistical nightmare and a breeding ground for market manipulation and fraud

The status quo when it comes to this topic is already fraudulent, because billionaires never sell their gains they just take out loans with the stock as collateral.

I’m not defending it lol, tax them as much as possible. I’m just saying I don’t understand how this would work in practice, seems like a mess.

If there’s a way to do it great, it just sounds incredibly difficult

IRS went through some random transactions i had a couple years back telling me to pay them some miniscule amount cause i missed them. Those niggas are crazy

I guess this all depends on what is considered “high net worth”

“High net worth” can be as low as a million dollars for certain alternative investments, etc. this is essentially 1 in 10 americans at this point so i doubt its that low but its pretty concerning.

The problem is it just makes zero sense. Say an executive at Nvidia or any other stock with massive gains in the last year or two starts getting hit with a 25% unrealized gain. The capital gains tax has already deterred these people from selling, and a lot of them just take collateralized loans and pay the interest instead because its cheaper than paying the gains. In many scenarios people would ironically be forced to realize their gains in order to pay an unrealized capital gains tax. Its insane. And what if an investment tanks the following year? Well you just paid taxes on money that never actually existed lol. They sure as hell arent giving them deductions on losses. The best part is that it all goes to Israel so they can bomb children.

Simply taxing them wouldn’t work since most of the government budget goes into private or semi-private hands since their social programs are thoroughly privatized

We’d need to create massive, entirely public social programs and put a really heavy hand on large corporations, financial institutions, etc. through antitrust litigation, ownership redistribution, a rescindment on government bailout policy, and fostering union formation

I’ve become thoroughly disillusioned atp. Even the marginal benefits of electoralism are just a nominal facade to me

Idk why it took so long

We have to prevent billionaires getting the money in the first place, since taking it back after is super hard
We need more inhouse goverment production instead of outsourcing every single thing to avoid accountability

Jeff bezos and elon dont care if we tax them for 3 billion since we just hand him a 10 billion dollar check right after so they can send some bullshit up into space
