When people say they are voting on the basis of reproductive rights when voting for Harris what is that based on?

Before his first term Obama campaigned heavily on the promise of working to have the right to an abortion codified into law but dropped that completely when he became president even with super majorities in Congress

Republicans have a majority in the House currently, Senate is pretty much even and Harris has already been moving rightward in how she presents herself and who she courts

How does all of that turn into a restoration of abortion rights if she's elected?

obama lost the supermajority immediately after putting ACA in place, dems lost like 4 states after that

he also never really had 60 votes because byrd and ted kennedy were incapacitated and dying and al franken hadn’t been sworn in until months later due to having his election contested

1. He shoulda handled roe v wade immediately as he got elected before doing anything ACA related.

point is he was never in a position to, even if obama put 100% of his political capital into codifying roe from day 1

put it another way, obama tried to sneak abortion coverage measures into the ACA and even those got killed by the senate, no way they would’ve had the votes to bypass the filibuster there

President Barack Obama said on Wednesday he favored abortion rights for women but that passing a law guaranteeing those rights was not his top priority, trying to avoid inflaming divisions over the issue.

"I believe that women should have the right to choose," Obama told a news conference marking his first 100 days in office. "But I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on."

His own words make it sound like he was never serious about this and it was all for the campaign.

not like codifying it would’ve protected roe either, any kind of federal legislation can be overturned by SCOTUS. to codify roe and actually safeguard it is going to require an amendment to the constitution.
