The polling formulas usually have a reasonable range and they run them multiple times and have generally been taking the most “conservative” result, the one that paints that as very close or tied even if 5/6 of the formulas suggest Kamala is leading.
Mostly as a reaction to 2016 where they got it so completely wrong
