Yeah, Pence bridged MAGA with centrists, casual republicans and some undecided voters. JD doesn't even have a fraction of the experience Mike had, 0 of the knowledge to lend to Trump in times of need, none of the strong pull amongst top republicans, 0 fans of his own, none of the accomplishments or achievements Pence came with. JD seems like someone Trump picked last minute, someone young he can groom into a successor and easy to control but I don't think even MAGA will latch onto him

I think JD is part of a long term strategy, Trump has to know he's a bad pick and hurts him in the short term, he's had a lot of time to think about his 2020 loss and he wants to appease some of the people he knows he lost whether that be voters or other republicans he burnt bridges with

Trump knows this is his last shot and he's not getting any younger, he can't rely on making it to 2028 if he loses this one. Even if he loses tho he probably sees JD as his apprentice in the making, he knows he has to pass the torch and someone new will have to take up the mantle for MAGA
