I feel like biopics worked for the older generation like James Brown, Tupac, Biggie, Elvis, N.W.A., etc. because there was no social media and they were more exclusive. Celebrities were more hightened back in the day because of this. You had thousands of people outside Michael jackson's hotel just to see him. So seeing their story on the big screen played by someone else isn't that jarring.

But I wonder if biopics would work for modern day artists in this social media age? We see artists nowadays more then we ever have because of the advancement of technology. I couldn't imagine someone playing Kendrick Lamar, Drake, or Kanye on the big screen for example. We've just seen too much of them. You think biopics are a dead genre for the future artists? I feel like documentaries are the way to go now like the Kanye west or Lil baby documentary

people might feel differently in like 50 years though. and yeah there is stuff from social media etc but that doesnt necessarily mean itll all stay in the public interest decades from now

im not really a big fan of music biopics anyway tbh

Honestly a Drake biopic would be cool but would prob lend itself better to a series when it’s all said and done for him

    Too many eras

But wouldn't it be harder to suspend disbelief and have an actor play an artist these days? I feel like we see too much of artists so it would be hard to take it seriously

I think they’ll work still. It looks kinda weird to think of it for modern artists since there all alive currently. Like all give best biopics within music was made like 10-15 years after their death. The only one that would be a classic for us would be Kanye

Also I love music biopics but documentaries are waaaaaay better and more interesting. That latest Janet doc is so good

It depends on who the artist is. If it's an artist that isn't as mainstream and with very little celebrity presence it can be done.

If it's Drake or Kanye, it would be much harder but it would be hilarious to watch.

If it's worth telling yes but some artists like Drake or Kanye just have too much to tell it should be a series

A lot of artist wouldnt have that interesting of a movie which honestly is a good thing

If you live a pretty normal healthy life ur life likely isnt gonna be movie worthy

Like a kendrick lamar movie would be boring lowkey, he was a great rapper and outside of that just kind of a normal dude, wow great movie plot

  • Sep 8, 2022

Kanye would have a pretty crazy movie with nothing too bad

But a lot of movies are because the artist had a violent life, or a d*** problem

  • Sep 8, 2022

Juice WRLD's documentary is essentially like a vlog collection so I imagine a lot of documentaries are just gonna be like this just videos of the artists living their life and no commentary

Edit: Was confused about what a biopic is. We definitely need "Runaway" a Kanye West biopic.
