So for a week coming up my employer is asking us to work Swedish hours.
For a week I would start work at 3am and end at like 2pm.
This seems stupid because I won’t be productive in the middle of the night, and I don’t want to mess up my sleep schedule for a few days just to painstakingly revert back when the week is done.
Is this legal and can I push back on this idea?
Are you working remote?
If yes just go somewhere in Europe for a week
Do some s*** there on the weekends
I dont see why it wouldn't be legal. Just a d*** move tbh

Sadly that's definitely legal especially given the advance notice. I've had to do the same sort of s***.
It's a terrible plan on their part and anyone doing it will not be operating at their best, full stop. I'd raise that point early and often as you can. If you do have to go through with it, document it and have that ready both for defense if there's concern about your performance (while f***ing shifting time zones to Sweden) and for your next review.
Pro tip: get some cold brew, either canned or using a diffuser. It's significantly less acidic and when I used to regularly do 430am shifts it made me feel far less garbage than traditional coffee.

"simple just relocate during a pandemic get an apartment and you good duh"

Appreciate the tips with coffee.
Unfortunately it’s a small company and I’m new here so im not too comfortable disagreeing with management yet.
Worried about putting a target on my back or getting the reputation that im “difficult”
3am is rough and a lot to ask for. I'd see if you could compromise and start around 5-6.

I hear you - definitely been there. If there’s any kind of route to voice that to your direct boss like “hey, still going to do it, but here’s my concern. I want to do the best work I can, do you have any advice?” etc. I’d do it if you can. Either way, keep detailed documentation of what you were asked to do, when, how it went, etc. including the initial ask.
Especially when the power dynamic is as it is here, you always need to be prepared to defend yourself if they try to pin anything that goes wrong on you in the worst case. And I like I said before, best case that’s a hell of a case for a raise come review time.

Doubt I can use this as leverage for a raise as the whole company is expected to do it.
But I will definitely raise the point with my supervisor and voice my concerns. Unfortunately he’s roped into it too as the decision was made by his superior

Yeah, that’s rough. I think you’re doing the best thing though. Your superior should act as a person enabling you to do the best work possible in light of any choices by their superiors.
Imo as a person who’s both been in your situation and a person who now has direct reports, having someone come to me as a boss and voice their concern while still showing commitment to doing good work would be amazing.
Just move to Sweden wagie
