this didn't make a lot of sense. rappers have to "take responsibility if what they do goes against societal norms"? not really. what about all the rap about killing people disrespecting women, selling d****, etc that lots of people rap about without facing any consequences for it whatsoever?
it is my opinion that rap and movies aren't really as different as we would like to believe. there are plenty of examples of rappers admitting they play up characters in their music to appeal to what they think people want to see, just like they are playing a character
nobody's asking them to take responsibility for rapping about that s*** anymore, its normal now, people understand vice and violence are appealing in art from a standpoint other than "wow i wanna be just like x rapper or y supervillain." you gain some moral standing from the fact that movie characters or rappers do bad things, sure guns and d**** are cool but i don't actually want to live that kind of life or else I would be already. what does anybody gain from white rappers saying the n word?
plus... they use rap lyrics in court to send rappers away all the f***in time
