Can you separate the wrongdoings of an artist if his music was great/good... or even acknowledge it as good, even if it wasn't your type of music?

Nah music's super personal when I listen to someone who I know is a terrible person I can't stop thinking about how s***ty the person is and it runs the music for me. Like Michael Gira mak3s disturbing music but knowing that dude is most probably a rapist makes me not want to.listen to his depraved music because the context makes it that much more f***ef up

In some cases, like Crystal Castles, where the abuse was woven into and actually shaped the art it makes it even harder to listen to cuz the music starts to take a different form when u realize the context behind the emotions and sounds of a song. Sucks too cuz I grew up on crystal castles but can't even listen to one song before wanting to turn the s*** off now

i agree with you - personality is a big part of the music. If I found out that Elliott Smith (one of my favs OAT) was a murderer - I would stop listening to him

No doubt. More than film or novels music feels too intimate for me to separate the art from the person because a record feels like a conversation in a lot of ways

what about for music where the personality isn't as big a part of the music? like if a dude from a metal band or a classical composer
    was a murderer

I do find it weird that we force ourselves to stop supporting artists for everything except killing people though. Like, Tay K and his friends killed a college student for some reggie and lame suburban niggas can’t wait to post “free him” any chance they get

yeah that's happened before with some guy can't remember the name. I probably won't still listen tbh.

Then again, many people on KTT still listen to YNW Melly so...
