This is DOPE! Not only a hot record, but it’s a testament of our growing ‘consumership’ power. She’s been grinding and obviously LISTENS.. she’s in the hands of a group of talented, resourceful people that she allows to guide and mold her into this ‘force’ that we see now. Something someone touched on earlier ..she has a natural affinity for connection and people with a unique charm and a wit that’s inherently ‘her’.. it comes through in performances, interviews, social media even her delivery in the music . I believe this is what ppl really latch onto. Along with her rise being padded by hip hop/culture becoming the dominant commercial genre in most formats.

But Cardi had to compete with Drake, Kendrick, Future, Travis, Post Malone, Migos, Roddy Rich, DaBaby, etc. in an era where rap is dominant.

So, the argument can go both ways. Would Nicki still be able to compete with the top male rappers in the streaming age with her pop hits?

Abandoning rap in her prime to chase hits instead of just making culturally relevant hits. Cardi has never done that.

MBDTF is ironically Kanye's most lyrical album ever. Power got bars on bars.

And Gold Digger is one of the best club bangers in rap history.

Only time I'll say Kanye went truly pop was with 808's and even that was very different from other pop music at that time.
