This gonna run the summer. Mark it.

No song will ever run a summer again, the current climate of music and the industry as a whole won’t allow for it. Something like Essence is the closest we’ll ever get and that wasn’t even an enormous song itself. Just culturally known.

What's poppin ran the summer in this same climate of the industry..I guess if I'm being honest though, the covid restrictions made it be the jam of the summer.. there's hope for a summer anthem.

Define what you think “ran the summer” means lol. Because What’s Poppin surely wasn’t anything more than Tik tok popular and YouTube popular. Same as anything else that is a largely known song these days. Nobody was playing that s*** out of their cars and it surely wasn’t playing at parties. Essence will be a function staple for years to come.

See.. that's where people are losing what a summer anthem is in my opinion. Tiktok is a big deal these days..it's essentially where people catch an extensive amount of play time for their music now. But not only was it there, it was also overplayed on the radio. Idk about you, but any summer anthem that I've ever heard was overplayed on the radio. You or the people you know don't have to enjoy it for it to be a summer anthem.. but the signs were there for it. We can agree to disagree. That's all just an opinion.

    i don’t think it will

It will. The generation now growing up on drill will eventually emulate when they're in a position to make music. Just as trap originally took over. Drill scenes are all over the world blowing up from UK, France, and even African niggas on that wave.

Essence is not American so you can't use that example.
