him and uzi took this aesthetic and made it their own in a hip hop context, it seems less creative because countless rappers after 2016 started doing what they did
im usually always on your side with the threads you make bro, i just think this example is kind of pandering because ktt2 currently has a hate boner for carti
What context? They just took it and said “I’m a rockstar” that’s it. And yeah you can say they popularized it but they didn’t start it
I’m not hating on carti I’m just not giving him a pass that he gets

because their music, especially carti’s, is the literal modern-day semblance of it, that’s the whole point, but it also sounds completely different because instead of a guitar bass and drums he has these beats aka he’s putting a new creative spin on this style (the repetitive nature, aggression, and short runtimes of the songs only further supports this)
you’re trying to discredit him while ignoring the musical context
Yeah that whole "im a rockstar" s*** got old real fast.
I'm not a big fan of his new music either, he doesn't even try and says literally nothing on his tracks.
I wouldn't have a problem with this normally but the fact people consider him a top 5 is unbelievable. You cant stray entirely away from the roots of the genre and then have people claim you to be one of the best.

but the genre is truly rooted in rhythm and repurposing past ideas
Yassssss drag him queen.
The quality of his music doesn’t match the d*** riding his gets on the internet either.
Hopefully WLR is worth the hype.
Carti is no more a clone than Uzi, Rocky or even Keef. Everybody is inspired by someone yall just dont like Carti
Anybody focused on aesthetics is gonna wear their influences on their sleeves
You can say the same thing about The Weeknd
but the genre is truly rooted in rhythm and repurposing past ideas
I'm not disagreeing with you. I just don't think he's a contender for a being a top 5 rapper.
Some niggas just can’t lose an argument that they started, escalated and admit they were wrong. That’s why people get shot
He also rapped on love hurts
Which is the hardest song in history with no drums or hi hats!

I don’t really agree with this. The musical context dosent make much sense either as it’s a completely different thing and values. About being yourself and being real an outsider. Carti is non of that. He’s a conformist

you sound like you're gatekeeping 'being an outsider'

how is carti a conformist in 2020
