Dec 30, 2020Okay after a few listens I have to give Carti credit for actually trying something new, I wouldn't say this new sound is directly reflective of the punk branding but at least he didn't just make the same old s*** with new packaging. I like his voice on a lot of these tracks, I like when he called himself a young b**** that was hard
I still think a lot of what I said is true even with this album, but not to the degree I was anticipating
Stans hyping it up as if Carti's the second coming of Christ or as if this is so punk really turn a lot of people off to it, some kid in the official thread said it felt like his first time listening to pet sounds lmfao

Looking at his merch, his style, his tweets, the overall art direction makes me feel like the music is gonna be some groundbreaking anti-everything arrogant punk bars but then you actually listen and it's weak and generic
I'm not even hating bc the branding is hard and clearly it's working to build hype, just sucks that the music so far hasn't matched it at all, and probably still won't on WLR. I'd be more than happily surprised if he does something conceptual, or outgoing, sonically or lyrically but I think we can just expect more s*** like
