I never said that it was.
But Drake and his fans are the ones clowning Kendrick for making attempts at social commentary in his art.
That’s why Drake can get criticized for not even making an attempt to do so
yeah i dont think you should be clowned purely for making social commentary
i do think kendrick specifically should be clowned for saying "i am not your savior" then turning around and trying to convince us hes our savior

But he’s not though
I haven’t listened to one post-Mr. Morale song by Kendrick and came away thinking “this guy thinks he’s our savior”
our glorious anti establishment king performing at the super bowl, making ads with ray dalio and collecting six grammys

As a huge Drake can you quote some bars where he is trying to convince us he's our savior?

TDE a powerhouse of a company, because when it's Alemeda's turn I'll be front and center
Phenomenal business model imo, at least for music
As a huge Drake can you quote some bars where he is trying to convince us he's our savior?

literally the entire theme of not like us
Damn thread moving fast had me thinking it leaked or a snippet dropped
No we’re just all guilty of having the same conversations we’ve been having

As a huge Drake fan you think the theme for NLU is "Kendrick is our savior?"
i really don't understand the anti-intellectualism in music sometimes. Like all great music movements are about, and have been about challenging the status quo
No we’re just all guilty of having the same conversations we’ve been having
I tried directing it in a more contrite and studious way
If Drake were to make music centered around social commentary would it be accepted?
F*** no

Media literacy is dead if you think Not Like Us is about Kendrick being a savior of anything
Respectfully Fuego, I already knew that but I know your earnest so I'll give you my perspective
I understand what you're saying but identity is something that's coveted and is a cornerstone in a lot of our (Black Americans specifically) lives. Being stripped of identity and constantly having to reinvent yourselves as a people is one of the effects of creating dissention between a people. You gotta remember slavery is the most significant even in history and we're watching the benefits of something that ended almost 200 years ago. We get to enjoying the celebration of a people, but we get irritated by the pain. All the while the intellectual property does not benefit the culture or it's people, and is actively used to continue the bondage of ours creators. It goes as far as our downtrodden getting subjected to limiting to basically perform for food. Although slavery was a bit ago, many of us have talked or known of a family member that's been through some type of servitude, imminent domain, unpaid and/or predatory medical research, displacement from floods or fires, etc
Essentially the soul of the people is in the music. These conversations will continue to happen because discourse as a whole hasn't come to terms with the pain of Black peoples, albeit I do think some of it is rage race bait. Sorry for being long winded but I had to
i appreciate you explaining it all for real, i do think I understood that slavery is still something that has an impact today whether its living relatives or just the fact that black people historically didnt get to own homes which is a large part of generational wealth
sometimes i just get lost at the "if you're white you dont get an opinion on art" concept, especially if its coming from a place of genuine feedback and not a racial place
But he’s not though

Death of the author, artists always get s*** projected onto them then blamed for it
Kendrick one of the biggest victims of this lol
