It's really easy to see why CSM failed. Nakayama basically spit on the source material and turned it into something completely different. Look at all the colour in the CSM manga.

All of that colour was stripped because apparently Nakayama has the mind of a 12 year old and thinks that colors = immature and no colors = mature.
The strawman about expressive faces that everyone uses has me convinced that anybody who uses that argument hasn't even read the manga. Nobody who laments the lack of expressive faces throughout the anime wants chibi faces, they just want any semblance of expression and energy. The more subdued, less expressive tone of the anime is nothing close to what the manga is like, and frankly, anyone who says it is is either lying to themselves, didn't read the manga, or is blind. There's a reason why people say that the CSM EDs, and ED 3 in particular, represent CSM better than the actual anime.

There is nothing wrong with a "mature", "cinematic", and subdued approach to anime, but using that approach on something like CSM was just a straight up stupid decision. Also, anyone who blames "the Japanese" and thinks subdued approaches to anime doesn't work on a cultural level is at best massively ignorant of the anime industry and at worst xenophobic. Nakayama's approach to the CSM anime is nothing new in the landscape of the industry and similar anime has been successfully made for decades.
Jesus f***ing christ manga nerds are the worst. Go make a video essay

He called the show runner a 12 year old bc he has an idea how the direction should be that he doesn’t agree with. He’s out of pocket and the entitlement and arguments are embarrassing. He typed all that out like a loser

csm anime fine to me but im starting to think you niggas never read the manga or probably forgot most of it lmao
For anyone who wants a lengthy and very nuanced take on this situation.
https://twitter.com/yuyucow/status/1587150484497960964The article that started it all lmao

This is really understated too. They agreed to make Chainsaw Man the anime not the adaptation of an existing manga. That’s why I respect it.

Because we can appreciate both? It’s like book vs movie type of thing.
You may prefer the one flew over the cuckoos nest book more than the movie. That’s fine. The book was written in the perspective of a completely different character than the movie. Yet it’s the same story and the movie is fantastic in its own right.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a risk and trying something different with source material
I’m sure season 2 will be nice and bright and goofy with neon guts everywhere so hopefully everyone is happy

no because the discussion was why the csm anime did terrible for the japanese audience and the answer was that it just wasnt faithful to the source material
you guys keep being purposefully obtuse for whatever reason repeating "oh they wanted exaggerated anime faces" or "they were taking a RISK" when the risk in question literally does not fit a very unserious manga like csm and was very evident in the blu-ray sales
no one said you can't like the anime and the manga. the whole point was just to bring clarity on why some fans didn't like certain aspects of it
anyway the discussion has ran its course, i can never hate the anime cause it gave us this and all the other himeno scenes
