At the start of the movie with power having those tired ass anime sound effects and way over exaggerated expressions and s*** I was like ohhhhh boy here we go but thankfully it wasn’t too present outside of that first 10 mins or so. If they started doing gag faces and bullshit nonstop like demon slayer I would’ve been pissed
The characters look worse. There is just no way you can deny that, like outside of fight scenes they just look flatter and less detailed. Makima in particular is so much worse compared to season 1. She looks a lot younger too, basically looks the same age as denji in the movie. She felt more mature and menacing in season 1. Power looks worse too. Way more cartoony
I’ll take off my season 1 cape now
Pool scene was beautiful. Reze was portrayed amazingly well and voiced spot on. The festival montage was another great moment with the soundtrack accompanying it.
I wish we got like another 10 mins of slice of life. Not saying it was too little but some more would’ve been so nice.
Then we get to the action scenes. This is where the movie shines most but it should. It’s a movie, it SHOULD be hand drawn masterclass and it is. The initial transformation of bomb, the way she attacks and fights, beam and denji team up, typhoon. It was all so damn hard man. The first person shots were crazy too.
They brought back one of the S1 EDs when Denji and Bomb were talking back and forth and it felt out of place to me. The one time where I felt the OST didn’t fit very well
The random ass volume cover splash art killed me. That was odee forced and felt like a “damn here yall go” to the manga stans crying about S1. Same with the multicolor explosions. Random as hell and I could’ve done without it personally.
Fight climax was amazing. Bomb fights so tuff. End of the movie just reaffirmed how bad Makima and power look now. Smh Makima got a crazy NERF man she ain’t even sexy anymore. Bland as hell.
Overall great movie. Hopefully the rest of part 1 has this much money and effort put into it.
imma have to disagree the animation is pretty much better to me in every way and I still rock with the anime. I’ve been watching the blu ray too. I just think it’s a preference thing not really objective
I'm going to bump up my rating because I keep thinking about the OST and the pool scene
I haven't started the manga yet, but it's like Denji may appear to be a gooner on the surface yet deep down all he really wants is a deeper connection and affection. Love and attention from another human is something that he has been deprived of his entire life.
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpLQgT1BfL0His only cope with life is just s***as a young dude with no home training
man i hate when a dark and moody dramedy manga gets tacked on with looney tune sounds and gag faces
Denji prob my fav anime protag in recent memory cause he feels like a direct response to the "male loneliness epidemic" s***

The animation is upgraded. However, the artstyle did go flat. He means the characters are pretty flat compared to season 1 during the non-action scenes.
Example

There were moments in the movie that looked like season 1 with the lighting and details.

Splash page was beautiful cant imagine complaining about that

That’s all im saying. Like I did not see Makima at any point in the movie look anywhere near as alluring as she did in S1
Just looks flat and dull. I don’t wanna post screenshots in here but they prove my point.
The action is action and it’s fantastic but I’m talking about everything else. I mean even comparing makimas daily routine to Aki’s is night and day.
man i hate when a dark and moody dramedy manga gets tacked on with looney tune sounds and gag faces
the "dark and moody" anime with "tacked on faces" in question:

mind you this is within the first couple chapters of the book lmao
and this isnt to say csm doesnt have dark moments but acting like the addition of gag faces is some new thing and not something thats rooted in the writing of the series is hilarious
the "dark and moody" anime with "tacked on faces" in question:

First scene already captured perfectly in this first clip
Denji woofing isn't even that exagerated or a "gag face" in the manga. I never said CSM doesn't have goofy moments. The hate given to season 1 was just overkill. For some reason, people who hate on season 1 art style are seeing it in some weird "take itself too seriously" lens. It captured the mood of the arcs it covered in a meaningful way.

Peak cinema angles
Either ways. If they keep the gag faces and "anime" sounds down then I'll be fine enjoying peak.

my post was to convey that csm isnt this "dark and moody" anime nonsense that you typed up, the fact that one panel i posted out of 10 is the only thing you critiqued (which is wrong by the way because in what world is woofing like a dog for a girl not an exaggerated expression?) shows it all
the gag faces complaint is just a nothing critique because you guys dont like the fact that its actually chainsaw man
MAPPA when they give yall another goated style of animation after niggas complained/ loved the first one

Okay, you're right. Let me edit to say dramedy as well. It still doesn't negate the fact the season 1 style is still Chainsaw Man. I can sort of agree with the action being a little too grounded since the movie improves it 5x.
The gag faces complaint comes from the hate season 1 got with people thinking it isn't Chainsaw Man lol. It still has the comedy, captures the meloncony, and has a great cinematic feel to it. Foh with the flat typical animation style we already have with plenty of other anime shows.
Back to panel one

This s*** is the same as the one panel lmao. OMG his mouth isn't as big in the drawing

Could be copium, but I think the flatter artstyle makes it resemble the manga more.

It does. I don't deny that. Lookback looks almost 1 to 1 with its oneshot. This movie is like the middleground between season 1 and the manga.
I do prefer CSM season 1 art style for the anime though
Looks like the manga is about to end with the way this new chapter is looking
Ya but I also feel like there's gonna be a twist
time for Fujimoto to bring back nayuta, power, reze, kishibe, aki

it does and he knows this he just likes playing dumb for his flop of a season 1
