Everyone else around Denji and Asa are super flat and not memorable. I'll have to do a re-read, but the characters in this part are not as interesting as part 1. That makes the action in a lot of chapters feel like Fujimoto clashing two action figures together.
Asa carries this series, and for a moment it felt like part 2 had no memorable MC in the middle of this series. Hopefully everything wraps up well, and we can walk away from the CSM universe in one piece.
I don't know what part 1 characters did to be more interesting than part 2 characters. Some maybe are more iconic because of the design, but that's It. I also think It being the first Fujimoto work to pop off and thus being people's first exposion to his extravagance gave part 1 in general a unique appeal and pedestal that he can never reach again. Part 1 mainly revolved around makima, aki and denji. Yes you have power, angel devil and reze, but they got far less focus than the main 3. And the same applies to part 2. Main trio of denji, asa and yoru, and then minor characters who still have strong writing in nayuta, barem, fami, fumiko (although part 2's main characters are generally better written (besides reze)).

First arc of part 2 is still the best arc
Aging devil, chainsaw man church, current arc are all great as well imo.
I think weekly reads can kill perception of the series because fujimoto is very methodical and calculated with his chapters. A streak of 5 30 seconds long chapters in the span of 2 months can and does kill pacing in the moment, but on re-read you truly get what he was going for and it flows a lot smoother. In fact, those chapters where "nothing" is happening become the backbone of the story. Part 2 in general flows like a feature film more than a weekly manga, which i can agree is somewhat of a flaw
