Watching this interview makes me wanna buy this nigga album ngl (get paid today )

Bulletpoints below, but highly encourage listening to this whole thing. This is how interviewers/media need to be. Chance literally asked to stay longer cause he enjoyed deante so much lol.

    • claims Quiet Storm one of his best raps he’s ever written (and was inspired by a concept of “space race being a distraction from the real space which is land”)

    • Speed of Light was the earliest song (recorded a few months after the big day) inspired by the pandemic pretty much “trapping” him and his bm in their home where they was already not really on good terms so he’d be driving at night to escape

    • Star Line inspired by learning of Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line and later doubled down by his trip to Ghana to hang with Vic Mensa (originally thought he was just going to turn up, seeing as it’s a huge nightlife over there “and hella ass” in Ghana) and ended up learnin/meeting all these Ghanaian artists. ( @Wip you was right )

    • The Big Day reception had him just wanting to be away from everybody/outside thinking the hate was universal until he began interacting with fans in real life and saw that wasnt the case

    • Acknowledges and gives grace to fans that deify him as the “Acid Rap guy” because he notices music reflects a moment where people was at. (Also says he feels the sessions of Acid Rap felt like to him the way the MJ Bad sessions might’ve felt. Super collaborative) and he feels the same way about CD and LR

    • was so inspired by college dropout he’d write college essays basically telling the college of choice he wasn’t going

dude, if you're so inspired by really great music, why don't you make some yourself, especially considering you're capable of it

i havent had a chance to watch the interview yet but its not really just that TBD was bad that bombed his career. it was actually the entirety of 2019. in 2018 he still had a lot of goodwill because of the singles (i might need security, 65th & ingleside, walla cam, etc). however people had a level of annoyance w him because of his public-facing persona post-coloring book. then in 2019 he really dipped into album push mode and people thought it was really annoying, on social media he was already getting s*** on pre-album - esp with stuff like that single w tisakorean. then the actual album dropped and it reinforced the hate, and then he doubled down on the meme from the album w the wife stuff and made it worse. then after that all the stuff w his relationship happened which fueled social media fire because of the prior wife stuff. if the album was just bad in isolation i dont think it would have affected him as much. that said star line out now

I don't agree with the Acid Rap thing, that album is just that much better. I heard that and Coloring Book a few months before TBD dropped so it wasn't a 'good ol times' thing.
