Unless it explicitly says otherwise it's pretty much a given that the IRS is gonna target the poor much more than the rich.

The rich not paying taxes has more to do with loopholes than the IRS budget not being high enough.

The congressional budget office report that this GOP article is quoting outright says that while audit rates are gonna rise across the board it’s gonna predominantly happen to higher income people

Okay sure more audits for the rich is good, but more audits is only gonna do so much to solve the problem of the rich not paying their taxes. The vast majority of taxes not being paid is through legal means of tax avoidance, not evasion. (Let alone the actual fiscal policy itself.)

And honestly any increase of audits for the poor is a negative in my eyes, especially when the IRS (like most Western tax agencies) disproportionately target minorities.

yea that’s totally valid I fully agree. I think the IRS was heavily underfunded but I also am strongly against audits increasing at all for anyone making under 100k a year. And you’re right about tax loopholes though the IRS being underfunded is a contributor to some degree

I’m just not a fan of this post and title being blatant GOP propaganda and it’s always hard for me to argue w s*** like this whole simultaneously agreeing w part of it

There was over $100B in PPP fraud nationally and over 100B in EDD fraud in California alone, the government is just supposed to let the thieves keep it?
