Hey guys I just heard this album last weekend and it was amazing! My first album by him. Beautiful voice. However My sisters girlfriend told me to listen to the mixtapes to truly enjoy his music. I randomly picked Thursday as the first one and I just don’t understand a word he is saying. Is this guy not American? Sorry for my ignorance but how do I get into his older stuff. He pronounces words funny on Thursday and there is an 8 min song and I heard maybe a minute of it and If you told me he was speaking Chinese I would have believed you. I don’t like reading lyrics while listening to music, but why is his music so bizzare and foreign sounding compared to this album. Does he have normal songs like after hours album?

Thursday is very unique in the sense that it's his most "drugged out" album. He said the entire project was freestyled. He's mostly just harmonizing and mumbling on most of the songs. Listen to Echoes of Silence. It's the 3rd mixtape, it came out right after Thursday. It's probably his deepest lyrics to date along with his debut album Kiss Land. He's a lot more clear on those.

House of Balloons, the first mixtape, is seen as his best project by most if you're interested in that. I'd say it's pretty "freestyle" sounding too tho, a lot of harmonizing on it

Also no he's not American, he's from Toronto. he used to have a pretty heavy Toronto accent earlier on

Okay thank you. I was going to listen to the echoes or silence album but my sisters gf told me it was very repetitive and slow. She also said she doesn’t like that album because he repeats lyrics and there are two songs on there where the lyrics are literally identical word for word. I’m surprised he got away with it. Also the first song is an mj cover so yeah. I just looked his discography up and I might listen to beauty behind the madness. Sounds cool. I have heard earned it and I thought for some reason Sam smith sang it yikes lol

I’ll give it a try again. didnt like the intro since it’s a cover and the second song started off in French and I could get past that. Also the songs are ridiculously long. How is beauty behind the madness? Will I like that if I liked after hours?

BBTM is basically entirely pop music. It's pretty good.

Listen to Kiss Land bro I think you'll like it if you liked After Hours

BBTM has both some of his best and his worst songs imo, it is more similar to After Hours than Echoes of silence, but echoes of silence is a much better project overall. Also D.D. first song on Echoes of Silence is by far the worst on the project only gets better after that.

Okay I’ll try that. Not a fan of the length of the songs. Kiss land is 7 mins alone. I’ll just listen to beauty rn and give you guys an update of what I think of the songs and then perhaps I’ll give kiss land and echoes a try

Because I honestly have a hard time understanding him. Like some songs it sounds like he’s speaking a different language. I love his voice but I don’t think his voice alone can keep my interest for 7 mins if I can’t understand what he is saying
