“For The Weeknd, in every year you only have a certain amount of people you can nominate for each category," Mason told Billboard. "... We are excited about some of the other categories where he was nominated. It’s never easy to tell where people are going to land."
He made similar comments during a Q&A with Variety, explaining the steps of the nomination process, which he described as both fair and arduous.
"... All the records get the fairest of fair shakes. We listen to all the music — even an album, you’re listening to almost the whole album, it takes I don’t know how many hours," he said. "It’s a long, arduous process and people take pride in it. The people in that room care: there's no agendas in there, there's no 'let's snub this person' or that person. It's about. 'Let’s try and find excellence.' Also, you have to remember that committee can't vote on something that's not there."
Imagine listening to Alone Again and Too Late then after that playing some Coldplay and saying "Yeah the new Coldplay deserves way more, top tier music"

This entire list is infuriating. folklore and Future Nostalgia are the only albums that belong on that list.
The worst part? That Black Pumas album doesn't even f***ing qualify because it missed the mark, eligibility period starts on Sep 1, 2019
It dropped in June of 2019 so they count the f***ing deluxe...

Like how can you read this as anything other than deliberately blackballing him? lmfao
a good comeback story is always great. if he releases in 2021 after superbowl we might be happy this time next year. after all, maybe he'll get so pissed he'll drop a "thriller"
That s*** is outrageous
I'm not even a big Weeknd fan, but I'm mad for him
Not only was BL and the album super popular, it was genuine top tier pop music , classic stuff
also it seems that the 2010s trend of big artists releasing every 2 years is gone.now it's preferred to drop at least few songs every year. think he'll go that route too.

Big the weeknd fan but CLB dropping 2021

“The only conclusion we can draw is that he was purposely excluded. Why?
There’s no way to know, but we simply don’t buy the explanations offered thus far. The only way The Weeknd doesn’t end up with both Big Four and genre noms is if a decision was made to remove him from the list.
If we’re right, that was a dumb-ass decision and a slap in the face to pretty much the entire biz. It makes us all look bad, and out of touch. It was certainly possible to acknowledge his achievement without lowering the volume on the Academy’s political/social objectives and (wholly justified) attention to righting the gender imbalance.
But if we’re doing this yearly trophyfest to honor great records—particularly ones that have had a huge cultural impact—Grammy’s neglect on this front is a huge failure.
In keeping with The Weeknd’s After Hours iconography, the people in the rooms who made this choice are the ones who should be hiding their faces behind bandages.”
He should take this as a big F*** U, stop the pop s*** and get back to the the Dark RNB since it’s clear he ain’t gonna get his props that way and he already has too big of a fan base to fall now like Drake.

whew
They tryna blackball Abel of all artists. Wow
Bruh is prolly the most beloved artist among everyone
This snub makes zero sense what so ever. You're telling me the artist who has had a Top Five Billboard song for almost a year, a great album to back it, and our future superbowl half time performer doesnt get one f***ing nomination?
