Only thing i want from the new album is samples.
Doesnt have to be as prevalent as HOB,but give us a track or two
Sample abel undefeated
The music, the aesthetic the music video rollout, the overarching story you can tell how much Weeknd loves movies with this after hours era

I'd love for him to cover another song too
You guys think Abel might be trying to push the industry to spend more times with their eras?
been thinking about this I know Abel likes to make waves and the fact he's still promoting/in After Hours mode kinda makes him stand out against his peers. Kinda makes me think he's trying to show people that we don't need to have these fast food eras.
Mixtape Weeknd is really kinda just dark pop if you think about it
ehh it's not pop music

he might influence the industry a little by doing this, especially since he has yet to release 3 videos from this era. kinda bizarre, but i understand why he's doing it. for hiphop, i doubt it when you have these rappers releasing nonstop

for an album to be called a pop album it has to check a few boxes imo. song structure/lyrics, marketability/mainstream and the sounds used.
that's why starboy, bbtm and after hours are consensually pop compared to mdm, kiss land and trilogy. hob is definitely the most "pop" out of the trilogy, but I have a hard time calling eos and thursday pop. i also have a hard time calling hob pop as well lol.

like there's no way these two songs are pop at all, devoid of any pop characteristics tbh.
the reason why most contemporary r&b is synonymous with pop is due to labels having artists sing basic pop structures, marketability, subtly sexual lyrics and having their songs overproduced with pop traits, while alternative r&b acts like jai paul, james blake, how to dress well, early frank & weeknd were self-made or had more freedom than their peers.

No yeah totally, that's why I really only focused on HOB instead of Trilogy as a whole becuause Thursday and EOS are waaaayyyy too loose and freebased to consider them pop.
I think at the end of that thread though we (I) came to the conclusion that there's just too thin of a line between Pop and R&B anyway lol

That's fair. I can understand a song like Wicked Games or Twenty Eight being called pop songs due to substance and the structure of the song. That's why HOB was the debut mixtape, to get eyes on him.
Random asf but I don't think I've ever heard anyone yet say Starboy was a stronger album than AH.
