This album is honestly such a reach.

If this is his stab at MJs level of artistry, this is a straight up embarrassment

His vocals sound so amateur at times its laughable And almost unbearable

This is where trying to appeal to the masses goes terribly terribly wrong.

The fact that this is even meant to get the attention of the average consumer is actually sad it’s so drab and stark and soulless.

The best thing this album has going for it is the catchiness of some of the melodies used in the production but it’s still so all over the place over the course of the project I don’t even know what to make of it as a whole. Poppy toxic music?

I tried man... this just aint it for me. Listening to this album has actually irritated me moreso than anything else for having to bear his forced toneless falsetto for the better part of an hour.

FWIW, you’re definitely in the minority about the album.

This site, Metacritic, Twitter, RYM, and the generic public (no.1 for 4 weeks now) are all feasting on it.

It may be his most received album, well, ever.

Everyone’s got their own criticisms but this is just plainly wrong. This is his most cohesive project yet. Every song kind of feeds off of the previous in some way shape or form that creates a much bigger picture that honestly should be pretty obvious.

i don’t base my opinions off what other people think.

I knew it was well received, that’s why I even tried listening to it multiple times.

You guys listen to albums and change your opinions of them because critics say otherwise

    Lol I’m good.

The singles are so boldly opposite and contrasting, I think it’s pretty obvious that what I’m sayings not wrong.

Just because all the songs use an 80’s synth sound doesn’t mean they don’t go in polar opposite directions over the course of the project.

I know this is almost out of the realms of possibility, but maybe, just maybe, SlimeeDice is the one who is wrong? And literally everyone else is correct?

I intentionally didn’t reference critics, either. Every source I’ve mentioned there (apart from Metacritic’s actual critic score) are aggregators from actual users — where the general consensus is that After Hours is a fantastic album.

I used to think After Hours was a fantastic album. But then SlimeeDice said we’re all changing our opinions because “critics have said so”. So now I realise how trash it actually is.

I didn’t try to force my opinion on anybody...

Actually quite the opposite is happening here. And using “other people think it’s great so you can’t hold that opinion” is a so weak minded it’s a joke.

when it comes to music, there’s no “right or wrong”.. I guess when an album you like gets panned you switch it up and go damn guess I can’t like this anymore, most people think it sucks.

I’m not asking y’all to change your opinion whatsoever.... If you like this album more power to you bro.

It’s just bad to me and rather than throwing an arbitrary opinion out there, I gave reasons as to why. Nobody said you had to agree.

I know y’all are used to echo chambers of what you wanna hear on here but that’s not how the real world works chief.
