brat was earcandy. i find that these beats use abrasive string samples, end in swells that sound like walls of noise, and are just less likely to appeal to the masses. the mix is rough around the edges which i would think is an artistic choice since it's still mastered well

I guess we disagree that more appealing to the masses = less creative risks. Brat is catchy but it's not a "basic" pop album or a deviation from what makes Charli distinct, it sounds like the culmination of everything she's made

She seems to actually get the source material. Some great tracks on here.

that's valid, there are definitely some super creative choices made on brat too, i didn't mean to imply that it was basic. that was just my thoughts from the top of my head on the differences between the two for someone who was asking
