I don’t think this song stuck the landing.

However, I also think some people are over-exaggerating their dislike of it.

The sound is there and the idea is somewhat there. I think my biggest gripes with it are 2 things.

1. It’s just a bit too on the nose with its self awareness, I would’ve preferred a more nuanced approach to how it was written.

2. The song is criminally short. If it had even just an extra minute more to let the song breathe and let the structure get into it more, it would’ve served better ultimately.

If this was just an interlude for her upcoming album, that would be one thing. But being poised as the lead single is slightly worrying.

However, Charli is a great artist and I have faith that she’ll execute her vision to a tee when we see the big picture.
