    Charlie Puth threads

  • good video, said it before but

    more songwriting threads!!

  • Like Charlie does here, start with the chords and the riff, it’s the basis for you to play with/embellish upon with your own vocal gibberish

And make sure the riff is strong on its own (ie the repeating piano figure Charlie plays at the start) so you can have something to work with when it’s time to hum. But coming up with strong riffs are their own can of worms

    Great thread

  • Stay is a great example of a type of hook in pop music that I would call a “Marathon Hook”, or a hook wherein the topline is constantly moving at the same intense pace for most of the duration before finally coming to its fitting epic hook conclusion in the last two figures.

The question and answer figure pair that repeats for most of the hook (ie “know that I can’t - find nobody else as good as you”) is where the marathon runner-esque momentum is found in. It doesn’t come to a halt until the very last two times the titular word is sung

Shake it Off is a another example

  • This song always been catchy aff #CLASSIC
