So here’s a funny story: there’s this one instrumental song from when I was kid, and I couldn’t figure out where it was from but I knew the main melody. I haven’t been able to get it out my head lately, so last night I said f*** it - I’ll make my own version of it

Well I liked the short version I made so much, I fleshed it out and made a whole beat for it. Check it out if you like 80s synth pop beats (you gotta let it ride to 2:33, that’s when the eargasm comes, then again at 3:29)

    Influences:
    Prince, The Weeknd, Billy Joel
easter egg: figure out the Nas Simple Things interpolation

    Enjoy 🙏

Yeah I got some older stuff I gotta find it tho

And with the chord thing I may have gone a bit overboard with the advanced music theory so it feels a lik weird lol. But ima keep it simple from now on fs

    no, complexity is needed

I'm saying, something sound off key a bit?

Yeah the second chord I added a modal chord extension on top of the previous chord to make it feel wacky, and modal notes are out of key

The song you were thinking of gotta be “she’s a maniac” from flash dance right? Idk if you already figured it out judging from the title lol. The first few notes of the hook are the same but then it switches up lol

Also I make synthpop too, don’t wanna fill your thread up with my stuff so I’ll just link to my thread

Feedback: as others pointed out there’s a few sections where it starts to sound off key. The section from like 2:30 to the final hook section has that off key sound. One of the synths running in the back has that same sound, it may actually be that synth that’s off key (sometimes I’ll certain presets are set off key intentional lol). Other thing I’d suggest working on is the drums. The actual drum pattern is nice and works really well, but the drums themself sound a little flat, I’d recommend trying to fill them out some. The melody on the hook is pretty killer and the selection of synths all work well together. Good stuff fam
