not bad but this is very mediocre, the production is a step down from his previous projects and the rapping isn’t it unfortunately

At the very least, it's sitting at an 88 on Metacritic based off 4 reviews from major entertainment media outlets. Maybe this really will be his magnum opus to the public

they were using AI to make their voice sound like Grimes i think that was pretty much it the rest of the song was all human made

there are parts of other songs I really enjoy, cruisin when the strings come in towards the end, the intro of running around but the rest just isnt clicking at all, not feeling the features and feel like Donald has barely any presence on half these songs he’s just lost in the background

I feel ya 100% on the last two notes. it kinda feels like a "Donald glover presents" type of thing.

more I listen to it the more I like it. favorites have jumped around a bit, but I've currently settled on No Excuses being a big standout for me. what a crazy song.

he got me with that spacy 60's sound on a couple tracks, which is exactly what I was praying for. but maybe I didn't expect this to be so instrumental

Having a beat switch at the halfway point of an album is pretty unique. Not many other albums can say that. Pretty sure the only 2 albums that have this in common are Blonde and Bando. Then both also being exactly an hour long, that is a huge coincidence for them to both have that same timing thing going on, these are things that no other album can say.

Gambino said he wanted this to be one of those summer albums that sticks with people like SOS. What are some other albums that come to mind? The description he gave fits blonde too

And I don't think you're remembering the quote correctly. He said he wanted an album to stick with people a long time like SOS. Like people are still listening to it today. SOS dropped in December, that's Winter for the northern hemisphere. I can't be bothered to search the article, but I don't think he mentioned summer

Halfway thru and this is a wonderful project so far. Love Donald

Yeah gave it a few more listens and it’s a 10 and easily his best album. BTI definitely grew on many over time and slowly became a classic which is why people hold it in such high regard, I’m expecting a similar trajectory with this project.

People weren’t f***ing with the weirder tracks like flight of the navigator and the oldest computer but they eventually came around

Btw also the transition of the blonde beat switch technically isn’t actually at the exact halfway point it’s just close enough and people ran with it. But the beat switch being halfway through track 9 on both albums is strong enough evidence to me, it doesn’t feel random
