I could see thinking rap is dead if you just listen to J. Cole, Drake, Kanye, Kendrick, etc. They're getting old and no longer boundary pushing. But hop on soundcloud or bandcamp for 20 minutes you'll find something new and inventive

I think we should give the genre a few awkward years before definitively declaring it's dead. there was talk of hip hop waning prior to the Drake/Kendrick/Cole generation too. this is def the worst it's been in a long time, but how long has it actually been stuck like this ? since 2020-21 or so? not very long, some on here didn't even notice the stagnation and are in denial of it. don't think it would take much to regain footing.

The boom of Vlog and SoundCloud rappers helped this, as well as the co-signing of these artists from current or established big names in Hip Hop(Wayne to Drake, Jay Z to Cole, Dr. Dre and all of the West Coast to Kendrick). That was literally like a shot of morphine in the arm of Hip Hop, but since maybe 2018 it's been business as usual for Hip Hop. Doesn't help most of the next stars are either dying young or imprisoned, but like i said Hip Hop is not in a good state no matter how you put it.

Bringing up Jean deaux is crazy cause she do them sexual lyrics too lmao

And your original post said “but the numbers show otherwise” like noname really breaking the bank with 1st week sales?

Again it just speaks to how corny those dudes are and exposes that they don't even listen to those women they throw capes on for in their imaginary battle against p**** raps. That's really the main point I've been making lol

gambino raps were the worst part of his career

  • Oct 6, 2023

Tell Gambino to shut the f*** up. Niggas will do everything and act elitist but not fight for their own genre
