Netherlands wasn't always more developed, esp not before the Industrial Revolution. But the real economic growth came after WW2. And the Americans had a big part in that. I highly doubt The Netherlands and the rest of Europe wouldve been better off if the USSR took over whole of Europe at the time. Especially politically we're way better off now looking at Russia

If you only talking globally and the effect of the Western world on the Global South it's different. But even then we can't really say if The Netherlands wouldn't have tried to wage war to take Indonesia back if the USSR wouldve taken over (The USA is one of the reasons why The Netherlands backed off in the first place). We don't know if the USSR wouldve disagreed w colonialism since they wouldve basically taken over Europe which could be seen as colonialism/imperialism in itself

But either way, Europe is only a small part of the world, the legacy of European colonialism has impacted way more people than European development domestically.

And when the USSR got involved in colonial wars, it was always on the side of the colonized, unlike the West for obvious reasons
