And this is a thread about AI, not about however you feel China and Disney can work towards better releasing cultural products worldwide

If you are upset over how China edits movies I encourage you to make a thread and garner your own discusssion

Catch up? They’ve surpassed us and will continue to do so

And this isn’t infrastructure or something that takes decades and trillions to tear down and build up. This is just s*** behind a computer screen

Americans too busy crying about work from home because they desperately want to get keep getting paid $100/hr on top of RSU’s to play video games, make tik toks, and eat out.

They followed the blueprint companies like OpenAI have started. That’s why it’s easier to catch up, they didn’t perform the initial R&D.

China also notoriously hires engineers from the US and performs corporate espionage to get a competitive edge. They find ways to steal corporate secrets and use it themselves.

    Here’s a source for that

    that’s what people imply

    And no, they are not

Chinese and Western companies enter into completely mutual agreements for American corporations to export capital to Chinese cities and hire wage labor for cheap, in return Chinese state owned enterprises and private enterprises can also enter limited agreements with private western corporations so that the Chinese corporations gain information

It’s just capitalist companies entering into agreements, American politicians know this too but it’s easier to just blame China for why America’s problem (and they can’t literally say “hey we are bought out by the same corporations that decided to de-industrialize and move industries outside America because we didn’t want to pay you guys that much)

It’s all cope to take away from the fact that America is largely unproductive and its industries choose to invest largely in stocks, assets, financial speculation instead of hard production of goods or social spending towards education, healthcare, housing which is precisely why 20-30-40 years later after China “opened up” to the West it surpassed the US at capitalism.

    Dope ass answer

  • Notice how IP holders are largely held by individuals who come from old money or have tons of capital startup already

It isn’t your average person or poor person getting an IP

It’s just for the rich to continue to get rich, historically this meant that corporations and firms with the impetus to expand under imperialism can move into less productive areas, (either by force or by exporting capital) and set up a monopoly over the resources and people of that land

Or for a rich capitalist to block an important commodity (medicine for example) from being generalized in production, instead they have monopoly rights over a specific medicine and poor countries have to pay exorbitant prices just of obtain them.

Further entrenching old processes of domination

well if you ctrl+f stargate in that article you get zero results so that should hopefully answer your question

and you cant "obliterate" a joint venture that was announced a literal week ago they only just started building out data centers for stargate

also yes deepseek r1 beats o1 on a subset of benchmarks but openai is already rolling out o3-mini, then a better model next month. openai's moat is clearly not that large but they arent getting "obliterated" by anyone

deepseek is cool because theyve built some highly compute efficient models to get around limited access to hardware and managed to make them comparable to foundation models that were already released by top ai labs. its very neat stuff but they arent ahead of the pack in any sense

its a pretty dynamic race, it was looking like claude had caught up to gpt-4o and then this whole paradigm of varying/scaling up test time compute emerged and things shifted

idk I could get into more technical detail but it feels like this is some kind of politically motivated thing on your part so whatever

What I’m confused about is outside of this pushing pricing down across-the-board..

Isn’t an open AI in an advantageous position since this is open source technology and they have the capital, talent, and existing infrastructure to take advantage of these new innovations and use deep seek’s open source model to improve their own solutions?

The business structure of DeepSeek will always make it cheaper and imo is what makes it cheaper now

The double whammy of being attached to quant hedge fund and not being filled with circlejerking senior officers like Sam Altman will give them a steep financial edge

Can you explain the model mechanics leading to it being cheaper? I haven’t read into any of it
