EX: the drums pattern sound like some early Dj kenn and Dj L beats
Than at 0:38 “bounce out start drilling y’all” the song came out in 2008
Chiraq nor did ATL have that sound in 2008 - 2010 only Cali
At this point we might as well just start tracking every rap sub genre back to the origins of rap
"drill" has been chicago lingo for shooting since the prohibition era
Like Al Capone type dudes
oh nah im not disagreeing with that point, ik most of the drill producers cite atlanta, especially flockaveli as their influences but i wouldnt be shocked if they drew from cali too. just stating that chicago definitely didnt get the term drill from cali though
The drum patterns are from Chicago's footwork genre. Maybe footwork/juke influenced that Cali s*** you have linked
didn't dj kenn do a bunch of work with chicago rappers though?
Think that’s a different Dj Ken idk though
I'm kinda dumb when it comes to footwork and juke but that's where they got the drums from. Footwork kinda took juke's unconvential drums and made them skitter which influenced gave drill their distinct sound
You can see the influence it has on their distinct production
hiphop su genres have always pulled influence from a ton of areas and from within itself
the bay influenced detroit and vice versa, i wouldn’t be surprised if there was mutual influence from both, but to say that chi drill is FROM cali is off

Yeah. Chicago just tied their own sound with ATL trap styles. S*** comes back to a circle sometimes though. King Von rapping on UK drill beats on his last project when his scene influenced that sound is kinda mindblowing.
