When he first came on to the seeing people was comparing him to Michael Jackson. & has chris made great music over the years? Yes graffiti Fain and X being his best bodies of work. But even after making three great albums and having a lot of hits. He never became the superstar that he was supposed to be. He was supposed to be Beyonce's male counterpart. Chris doesn't have a classic album nothing on level as Thriller Off the Wall Purple Rain Red Light Special Don't Be Cruel 12 Play Confessions ect... he doesn't even have an iconic song nothing on the level of I'll Always Love You When Doves Cry burn Mr Telephone Man what's going on,between the sheets ect... instead of being in the same realm as Michael Jackson he's more comparable to Trey Songz.
as someone who
listened to his first album nonstop
in 8th grade
gotta agree
still got time though i believe
was the MJ tribute his peak thus far?

His first album has no misses
Regardless what he puts out he’ll never be in that realm because of his past.

Which sucks, as he got some great music
He never had a Quincy/Babyface/Jam & Lewis/Timbo/Jermaine Dupri handling his albums. His albums have no direction style wise

I think his main downfall (other than hitting Rihanna) is not having one classic. I don't wanna say it's too late or anything, but nothing he's done in the past 16 years has impacted or influenced the music industry in any way. He doesn't have a song or style that people copied, or the classic album that had amazing sales, amazing critical acclaim, or impact. He's got a nice top 3, but when you look at it objectively, the only thing that's saved him is his talent and ability to stay relevant. He's an icon for sure and has influenced some of the newer generation of artists over the years, but nothing about him other than his dancing and ability to make music that keeps him afloat stands out.
He was on his way to becoming the next Usher, but the Rihanna incident really messed him up and the closest thing to a classic afterwards was FAME. I don't wanna be the shoulda, woulda, coulda, guy, but he really could HAVE been the next Usher or male equivalent to Beyonce if he focused on making at least a classic album like Confessions or 12 Play or Don't Be Cruel and have some type of Thriller in his discog, but unfortunately it never happened. I hope it's not too late and he gives us that magnum opus that would significantly improve his discog and put him at the next level, but he really went down the wrong path making albums with over 30 songs. Nothing against long albums, but HBOAFM had little to no cohesiveness other than the music sounding similar (which is an issue in some people's eyes by itself). Indigo was better, but it also had a few too many tracks that just didn't fit.
I love the dude, but he just needs to realize he DOES have something to prove, even after all this time. Like I said before, he's an icon but it's almost disrespectful to put him with legends like MJ, Beyonce, and Usher when his discog struggles to compare.
True
Wish he made the album he’s capable of making
He still has time and I think we can get it, it's just a matter of if he wants to.

Tough for any artist to release a focused cohesive album in this era.
Especially one who’s never done it before.

That's my doubt about it. The fact that he hasn't done it makes me sad that it most likely won't happen. And if he did, a lot of people prolly wouldn't take it seriously, looking at his past which is unfortunate.

that past includes dropping a 45 track album
man Prince passing was such a tragedy
