He was talking about it in an interview that came out recently (I think in the last week or so), he was saying he feels like traditional R&B is dead and people only expect mainstream R&B acts to be emo and introspective now and anything that has confidence and showmanship in it gets labeled as neo-soul, which is a label he doesn’t agree with

The fact he made Sleep At Night, Warm Embrace and Harder for this album is enough for me. Those are genuinely some of the best songs he ever made

I don’t think this is true in his case. He built a long catalogue of hits to be boxed in like that

In his interview with Big Boy he talked a lot about how he perceives Chris and “Breezy” as two different versions of himself. Chris bring the man who loves his children/mother and has to be a rock for them. “Breezy” sounds like it’s how he sees the young, carefree, party-going side of himself. With that in mind, it was pretty obvious that this was never going to be an album with a lot of introspective songs and slow, emotional tracks.

I’d expect to see that on the next album which will probably directly contrast this one
