I think it’s been reported the whole movie was shot in 70 mm imax

nah they brought 35mm cameras and 70mm imax cameras. It won't be fully shot in 70mm.

    He's not shooting in 35mm.

The film will be like Dunkirk. Shot on 65mm (some people just call it 70mm) and IMAX 70mm. So, technically people can say the entire film was shot on "70mm."

I don’t think it’s even possible to shoot an entire film in 70mm imax Cuz theres apparently a theater cap in terms of run time

I think if u watched a Nolan movie in a regular format, there wouldn’t be any aspect ratio change

this is a good guide for this, watching dunkirk in imax with laser it went from 1.90:1 to 2.20:1 depending on if the scene was shot in 70mm or not

so there were still aspect ratio changes, but during 70mm scenes it wasnt the full height for me sadly

I drove out to Indiana to see it in true 70mm IMAX. So the whole screen lit up during those sequences and it was wild. Never gonna forget those aerial sequences showing the entire ocean man

    Damm

I’m lucky that I’m in America but even then there’s only like 10-12 real locations in the country lmao

I’m in Chicago so I’m lucky but the year Dunkirk came out, that theater was undergoing repairs (they actually installed a real laser IMAX theater now so thats legit one of the best theaters in the country now), so we drove out 2 hours to see it lol

I have a feeling this might become the biggest movie of the year, I can only see Wonder Woman 2, Soul or Black Widow competing with it at the box office.

Please let this be more like Dark knight or prestige and less like inception. Don't need every line of dialogue to be exposition

Really?! I wouldn’t bet on being a big blockbuster

Yeah there’s a difference between the two

You need an imax screen while 70mm is moreso the film projector

So I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 70mm but it wasn’t on an imax screen

  • Jan 12, 2020

A 70mm projection uses 65mm film (aka just regular 70mm film).

IMAX has its own version of 70mm film that is the highest quality film available to shoot with.

If you see Tenet in specific IMAX 70mm theaters, for the sequences shot with IMAX 70mm cameras, the aspect ratio will be the massive square with normal 70mm sequences being 2.20. If you see it in Digital IMAX, the ratio won't open to the full amount, but it'll still open it up to 1.90/1.78.
tl;dr: yes, the aspect ratio will still change, and no, it shouldn't bother you that much.

I’m sure y’all have said this but thus seems like someone has found a way to reverse the second law of thermodynamics right?
