Wild the number of people I see saying that Nolan no longer “has it” anymore. No benefit of the doubt or anything.

You’d think Nolan had only dropped Tenet alone in the last decade or something.

Idk how you can watch Dunkirk, Tenet, and Oppenheimer and say Nolan doesn't have it anymore lmfao

  • Oppenheimer is top 3 Nolan btw

Insane that anyone would think Nolan fell off

Yeah it’s super easy for me to discount anyone’s opinion on film if they hating on Tenet

Yeah it’s not Dunkirk or Oppenheimer level but it’s still better than any action movie this decade

  • i think Tenet is good but im not saying that it's better than Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, Kill, Furiosa, Furious, or The Shadow Strays

however i need to rewatch Tenet (which im doing in theaters later this month) since i've only seen it once

I do gotta watch The Furious but I’m easily taking Tenet over those others which I think mostly suffer from the fact that they all rely far too much on their gimmicks and don’t offer much substance beyond it (a consistent problem in the action genre this decade)

i mean Tenet also relies a lot on its gimmick and i don't recall their being much substance in it (hence the "Dont try to understand it, feel it" quote)

also not sure what gimmick Twilight of the Warriors or Furiosa got going on

Tenet relies on its gimmick but it’s a far cooler gimmick than just “dudes beating each other up”. Also visually and musically, it’s a far more captivating watch. There’s so much more to it as a filmmaking feat beyond practical stunt work. Also there is more to chew on narratively when you consider the timeline of things so there is thought put into the story unlike a lot of these others.

Furiousa is just diet Fury Road let’s be real. Yeah it’s narratively structured very differently but the visual and filmmaking and world building aspects of it are heavily reliant on Fury Road and the whole time I’m watching it, I’m just thinking I’d be having a better time watching the better film.

As for twilight, I do think it offers more than just the fights (which frankly were boring to me compared to the world building/visuals here). Thing is that was the only thing which kept my interest watching it since the story, characters and action was quite lackluster to me.

The concept is so f***in cool

And the fact he thought of those logistics like the car chase and the heist is amazing

i mean it makes total sense that Furiosa would be reliant on Fury Road when it comes to the visuals and the world that it takes place in, it is a prequel to the latter lol. it provides more background aspects in this version of the Wasteland that was never explained in Fury Road, while also exploring the tragic background of a character that quickly became a fan favorite.

sorry but i can't trust anyone who says that the action sequences in Twilight of the Warriors are boring. there is some real imaginative stuff going on there, especially with how limited the space that the actors are working with are and how claustrophobic it feels (in a way it reminds me of King Hu’s classic Dragon Inn). not to mention that it’s not just a loving eulogy to a place that doesn’t exist anymore, but also a loving homage to the once booming Hong Kong action scene in the previous century.

I mean the dark knight validated itself as a sequel to Batman begins by not being a carbon copy in aesthetic. It was very much its own thing. Furiousa felt like reheated leftovers

And I mean fair enough. I just watched Hero and find Yimou’s command of action and visual language far more captivating and powerful than what Cheang was doing. Ngl Limbo was so much better than twilight
