I liked it and thought it made sense.

It interesting that this was his last “out there” plot, and I get the feeling that it was a bit of a flop in the public’s eyes.

Oppenheimer & The Odyssey are both linearity stories and also set in the past.
Both have been high success.
Is Nolan playing it safe because of the response to Tenet?

don't think that had any affect om tenet's release. iirc WB decided to do theatrical and streaming simultaneously for their 2021 releases without telling any of the directors, which pissed Nolan off and made him go to Universal

Wasn't tenet also released that way? Or at least given a shorter theatrical window than usual. You don't piss off Nolan into a divorce without some extraordinary move
