Literally the reason they killed off E3. Whole thing is pointless when you can just post trailers online which is all people really care about anyway.

It’s really for studios to show theater owners what they’re going to have over the next year.

Again it’s for theater chains primarily. Especially smaller independent theaters to go and for the studios to say why those small theaters should play our movies with the limited screens.

The theatrical exhibition business is wildly different than the games business.

It’s just a bonus for people interested in these movies. It’s just become another marketing tool.

I get that it has been a thing just for theater operators, but im talking about its new turn into a collective experience and then entertainment journos and press spreading promo and stuff on social media. Thats just a press junket, which are already awful things that waste money on their own.

You cant say the same thing about comic con because that has always been and still is primarily driven by fan engagement and participation. Big media conglomerate have been putting on marketing events at comic con and they are usually promoted as being separate from the traditional convention.

From what i can tell, there arent thousands of people in costumes of film characters and independent booths selling film merch at CinemaCon. It is literally just a big trade show for screening tech and entertainment press junket.
