Son this track was a staple in dancehall mixes since it first dropped...you couldn't go to a fete or bashment party without hearing this song. The fact that it is only just now getting a gold plaque in 2022 is insane
They are saying a reason why it has taken so long for it to sell this many records is because the song was released in the early peak of the music piracy era. The Caribbean label VP also did not expect the song to be such a hit upon its release and underproduced copies of the record. The American distributor Atlantic (because of course it's always Atlantic) also did not really aid in production of more copies. Leading to many DJs having to rely on bootleg copies of the track, which naturally would not contribute to its record sales.
I can somewhat understand the music piracy and bootlegging going on that could've stunted its sales but like...bruh this song really is major around the world. Countries in Africa know what it is when this song comes on at the party. Gets major play out in Toronto during Caribana. The dancehalls in NYC, ATL, DC and Baltimore, Chicago and so many other American cities go up for this track. Of course it's an anthem out in the Caribbean. The yardies and Africans out in the UK know what's up with No Letting Go...for it to only just now be receiving a gold plaque in 2022 is...bruh I'm forreal flabbergasted lmao
