This just in: Popular music applies to a broader range of people instead of an intelligent, significantly aware listener base
that means its dummies listening to your favorite music too good for the artist, more streams , oh well.
jcole fans watch "ending explained" videos on youtube after watching a pixar movie
Ok dis fire RT
Idk if this applies to the people in OP but I've noticed white people don't know the meaning of like 90% of the lyrics of some of their favorite rap songs
Ever since Cole came out and said last year hes not as smart as niggas claim he is,his music sounds better to me because it sounds exactly as he intended it to,average. Also, when asked what he likes about J Cole in an interview in 2012,kendrick didn't compliment his skill or anything music related,he just called him genuine and honest, which actually applies to his music because that's all it is really
he just genuine tho always was idk why people on his bumper like that
Rap fans low key getting dumber
Casuals
the same people itt making this a joke gas up kendricks bullshit lyrics, hov on 444, and try to pretend lil uzi vert is lyrical
U took that quote out of context
of course he did because j cole haters literally have stage 5 autism

Lol niggas really forget this
The idea is not to bar up the record so much that it's not easily digestible. The entire point is for lines to be witty, but not overly so.
People not trying to go to rap genius for every damn bar. The spirit and delivery is far more important.
Rather see that than niggas nutting over a carti bar
The difference is, Cole is considered a top tier lyricist but usually his music is so shallow and surface level. An artist like Carti or Travis isn’t trying to be that at all so even if they just say some cool s*** it feels a lot better than people freaking out
Over the most surface level Cole bars
This isn't really an example of it but one of the things that always put me off Cole was the forced wordplay
Like you'll be listening to a nice lil song and then he'll throw in " I'm hot, dog, ketchup to me "
casual rap fans like the 1 in op eat it up tho, same way they do with Eminem (who I believe.Cole is a huge fan of so that prob explains why hes like that)

And black rap fans will clown Eminem and praise J. Cole for using the same exact technique

People of all fanbases freak out to basic lyrics it's not a cole specific thing lol kendrick even made a bar bout how his fanbases does the exact same. I posted a drake thread where his fans do the same. And all 3 are considered top lyricists
