The trap songs on KOD weren't really the best attempts I agree. But it was his first foray into the sound. I think the off season was a much better marriage between Cole's style and trap beats and showed he could put a more modern spin on his sound and keep it authentic. The new snippet further proves that

Been listening to Cole for a decade and some change now and I will still never understand why cats get so hype over dude.

He really shines on features but his solo material is the weakest of the "big three" if you into that sorta comparison.

Imma be honest I don't even get it with the features either lol like he ain't bad and yes he is rapping well can't deny that. But I'm always left feeling...nothing. I genuinely can't remember the last time I felt impressed or blown away by a Cole verse.

He did renegade Drake on First Person Shooter though so I'll give him that.
