ik this thread is kinda late but I feel like people in the online hip hop space highly overestimate j cole's popularity. irl he is nowhere close to drake or kendrick, no offense to him as he's very talented

Idk it depends how you gauge it. Critically yeah Kendrick dropped a magnum opus, but Drake was everywhere that summer. Hotline Bling was arguably his biggest hit yet, They were playing Back to Back at stadiums during games. Idk, Kendrick just didn’t have that presence. I feel like it was the year that solidified Drake as the guy.

How did they have Cole at #1 for 2022 after naming heavens ep which has a cover of a drake song, and drake having more reasons to be 1 on their own list?

Look how long he has been near the top of the game, selling records, and whatnot. His performance at the all star game is one of the memorable performances of all star weekend. Come on man, he’s that nigga
