  • When i say cc/viral rap i mean like the joyners, the russes, the tobes, and the larussells

People that somehow have mastered the internet as far as gain a following off the musical content that they do post. They have been able to develop their formula and gain a following without backing from a label. Good stuff that I do commend these types of artists in doing btw (e.g. it’s dope larussell uses his money to help his community).

With all of that being said: why none of they actual music ever be sticking like that fam?

I’ve listened to a full tobe album, listened to a few larussell songs, and listened to some russ non single tracks.

They all consistently be mid ngl.

This type of artist to me the type that look at music like a science or math. They know exactly how to find their demographic/audience and “work the algo” to their advantage.

Buuuuut forgot about the “make compelling art” part.

Well, if you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, then it’s simply music that’s modeled after outrage culture. The end goal isn’t to create the most compelling art, or even good or worthwhile art, but to generate clicks and get people talking about it. Kind of feels like record executives have started to see they can use some of their artists as mouthpieces for generated clicks the same way certain influencers do.

That LaRussell video is kind of the perfect example of this lol. Clickbait caption “MY ENGINEER SAID I SHOULDNT RELEASE THIS” combined with the most outlandish s*** “Hitler and Epstein were heaven sent” all wrapped up in the most monotonous, dogshit “music” imaginable lol.

That’s just the internet in 2026 unfortunately.

Not “just” outrage rap but viral/cc rap in general. Those artists/rappers that have millllions of followers on ig, all their short form rap content gets engagement

But the actual music released irl just never compelling

Some of the best marketers don't have the best product, yes. It's uncommon but not impossible to see someone who excels at drawing attention and actually having something legit compelling

Seems like that’s just the way some (maybe a lot?) of people engage with media nowadays. They prefer short form content as opposed to substantial long form content.

i dont wanna say hip hop is easy to make but if ur an attention w**** with no appreciation for the artistry of the genre, its not hard to hop on a beat and say some bullshit to try and go viral

  • Mar 22

I honestly think they get bigger than they expected and the ego from doing that always wins that they never leave the formula

  • The whole point of the algorithm is to find what goes viral and just do it over and over, doesn’t matter about being good tbh

The leverage comes from the engagement, not the quality of the art

It aint just rap it’s some bands (some of which ktt2 does like a dikksucking for) doing the same formula but the music is mid/bad

  • the music doesn't stick because they're not artists, they're influencers.

you're wild for putting Russ in this convo

he's been doing his thing for years fam

  • They aren’t artists. They are influencers looking for attention. They want cute lil videos to go viral. They just use music as the vehicle to do that.

  • Content creator raps is just a money scheme to something they aren't even passionate about.

They have the followers and they using it to make some quick bucks with lackluster music that might get some listens the first two days and completely die off and never be played ever again.

It's impossible to stick to music and become a real musician dropping great albums and doing concerts when their heart is not in it. It is just cool trend for them

  • Mar 23

This is a great question been thinking about it all day

  • In my opinion i think they genuinely think they are doing something worthwhile and the fans also think so, its just not the vibes

Ive met many joyner lucas fans who really think hes making high art and have explained why. Dax played next door to my job and i got to chop it up with ppl who think that hes really making compelling art lol. And you know what, who tf am i to say otherwise? Its literal dogshit to me but aye. The only valid explanation for liking something is, "i like it and heres why" theres no wrong answer there

That, and some people are simply better marketers than musicians. Marketing can be an artistic practice (though its 99 percent twisted via capitalism) so i dont wanna say they arent valid artists. Like the russ's and the logics, dare i say kevin abstracts of the music world (though hes actually good) They just dont be hittin for more esoteric listeners who require more from artistry as a whole.
