  • Modern rap comes from MEMPHIS. They started the whole trap drum pattern. That’s the skeleton behind 90% of modern rap now.

Everyone’s tryna mention Boosie, Chief Keef, SGP, they wouldn’t be s*** without the originators. Y’all forgot a piece of the puzzle

Ye is part of the convo but far from the only one.

Wayne, Future, Lil B, and Keef have just as strong of a claim to influencing modern rap.

No doubt he contributed. But I look at it like the US. There’s founding fathers. Not one creator.

50 Cent's influence is understated too.

Many Men is still one of the most sampled songs OAT from newer rappers.

A lot of rappers overseas are influenced by him as well.

Crazy that my boy from Racks changed the ENTIRE GAME to the point where he's a f***ing untouchable between Kanye and Drake and Metro and all those beefs. He's THAT big and he used to just be the Racks/Tony Montana guy

Trap Drum patterns take a lot from ATL drumline and fraternity step scenes. Thats where the stutter step and crazy rolls are from

  • But if I could pin the birth of modern rap to one person or area, it would be DJ Paul and all of Memphis. Paul wasn’t lying when he said he hasn’t heard a single trap pattern that he didn’t make before yet

bone thugs gave us the flows and melodic rap

three 6 gave us the drums and production style

between those groups, you have the foundation of trap for sure

  • Mar 22, 2024

As a Memphis native, I approve of this message

Memphis definitely but I’ll throw ATL & Houston in that convo somewhere too
