"Covid-19 emerged naturally and is not is the product of an accidental leak from a Chinese laboratory, according to a team of internationally-regarded virologists, following a review of all available evidence.
The finding â the second in a less than a week to declare the virus a natural phenomenon â dismisses the possibility that the virus escaped from a Wuhan laboratory in China, where Sars-CoV-2 was first detected.
It backs up the findings of other experts outlined in a letter to the Lancet medical journal.
The 23 scientists â including Prof Edward Holmes, who first shared the Sars-CoV-2 genetic map known as a genome with Chinese colleagues in January 2020; Wellcome Trust director Sir Jeremy Farrar and leading US virologist Dr Angela Rasmussen â assessed the evidence including genetic indications.
Their findings were released as âa pre-printâ study which is due to be submitted to a research journal in coming days.
âThere is currently no evidence that Sars-CoV-2 has a laboratory origin . . . There is a substantial body of scientific evidence supporting a zoonotic animal-to-human origin for Sars-CoV-2,â they conclude.
The epidemiological history of the virus âis comparable to previous animal market-associated outbreaks of coronaviruses with a simple route for human exposureâ, they add.
Contact tracing to markets in Wuhan âexhibits striking similaritiesâ with early spread of the original SARS-CoV virus at markets in Guangdong, China, where it âspilled over into humansâ.
By definition, this selects for viruses âable to infect humansâ, they noted, whereas âlaboratory escapesâ known to date have âalmost exclusivelyâ involved viruses being investigated because of their known human infectivityâ
I saw some conspiracies thrown around lately. Figured this would be good for the community
some people on this site aint gonna like hearing this
Yeah I was seeing alot of those rumors bubbling up lately
Sorry OP I don't trust the Irish times

Note: this still needs to be peer reviewed but this is their initial conclusion

Trust the Brits even less.
I was joking but that sentiment is definitely on here
alright i'll bite. i think this s*** was made in a lab.
I think we should wait a little more until the investigations are done. But so far it's leaning towards it being natural
Thatâs more disturbing than if it were created in a lab
Right, I'd rather this s*** be a designer virus than a force of nature. That means it will happen again out of our control and could be even worse

Yeah that is scary. Maybe once we understand it more we will be able to find ways to prevent these type of diseases more easily

this is why i believe that it was made in a lab. it has almost completely convinced me. if you haven't seen, please take a look. not being facetious here.

lmao f*** all the conspiracy s*** but im sorry aint no way im believing a new souped up coronavirus that was first detected right next door to the biggest coronavirus lab the world originated naturally until they discover a natural host that disputes a lab leak theory
