Oh man out here sampling like a motherfucker but it’s cool 😂
we all could do with Tsai Ming-liang's The Hole in bluray, it's a good pandemic pick

It’s rather smart because majority of folks out here not really checking those flicks. It’s not like he ripping s*** from a Spielberg movie. And then he admits it in interviews, so if you do catch him you can’t even say anything that he hasn’t already said.
I think people who copy that get flamed for it are the ones who copy the most popular US directors like QT and Scorsese and then try to act like they didn’t. They don’t realize those guys are just copying lesser known older films lol

QT’s secret to film making: find older lesser known films to copy

yeah I also see it as Quentin just being a fan of cinema. I like his spin on things.

Definitely he’s a huge fan. But just like Kanye sampling music there’s definitely an art to it

Watching that lowered my appreciation for Kill Bill and QT in general a decent bit

If I give my main characters Green and Red samurai swords I’ll be flamed for it. But if I copy ‘Seven Samurai’ I’m in the clear

Too much copying for u?
Too much copying for u?
Well Kill Bill was my favorite QT but then I preferred the original in general so that just made me go like “damn”
I do think it’s just way too similar. I recall even some of the music fit a similar vibe, and music tends to be one of QT’s personal touch areas- so yea way too much.
It’d maybe be different if I thought he copied/upgraded on a cool but sloppy film- but Lady Snowblood is dope as is
QT to me is a hybrid film maker. He knows how to take multiple resources and combine em.
He’ll take dialogue from Richard Pryor and Elmore Leonard, combined with movie scenes from old Asian flicks. Topped off with soundtracks from 70s soul music.
Kanye is the same way he’s great at combining different genres together people usually wouldn’t do.
So how do you make films like QT? It’s simple don’t copy QT movies, copy his formula.

tbh this usually how it goes

That’s true bro. He copied Bruce Lee as well with the yellow jumpsuit outfit

I still love Kill Bill and if it wasn't for it I prob wouldn't have watched Lady Snowblood. there are enough creative differences that allow me to enjoy both films.whats funny is vol 1 >>> vol 2 and the same for Lady Snowblood. the first is stronger than the last because it's more of an intimate film because it's solely based on her personal vendetta

But who does Kanye take from for his lyrics? Kanye has an original personality at his core. Maybe QT does too, but I think his ‘film appreciation’ maybe goes a little far. I’m not gonna call him a hack (but maybe that’s also bc I haven’t seen enough of the other source films 😬). It’s my understanding tho that Kill Bill is the one that takes the most from another single film. I don’t mind mixing n matching too much, it’s the singularity that stood out
